Thomas Hirschhorn dumps 14 truckloads of cans in a museum, for ‘Too too – much much’

I’m a journalist. I love words. But sometimes I lose. The pictures beat any description, when it comes to Too too – much much, the new ‘sculpture’ Swiss artist Thomas Hirschhorn is about to unveil, on Sunday. Fourteen truckloads of cans were needed to fill the rooms of Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (Deurle). It took more than two weeks to ‘build’ this dump. Visitors will be offered boots to wade through all those smelly heaps of waste. Hirschhorn had two themes in mind, he told me, when he came up with the idea for Too too – much much. ‘First of all: there are too many problems in this world we’re living in: too many wars, too much injustice and we consume too much. Secondly, the title refers to the fact that an artist always wants to do too much.’ These are images you’ll undoubtedly be seeing everywhere, the coming weeks. Too too – much much is on view till December 15. Info here.
