Six Belgian collectors make it onto top 200 of world’s most active art collectors
We’re known throughout the world for chocolate, waffles and that litte peeing guy. But maybe art should be added to that list too. Newsweek recently named Francis Alÿs one of the ten most important artists today, and as I’ve said before: we have a couple of art collectors that are among the most diligent too. The Belgian Daled Collection has recently been sold to New York’s MoMA and now American magazine ARTnews has ranked six Belgian art collectors among the world’s most active collectors, in its 21st annual ARTnews 200: Philippe Decelle, Annick & Anton Herbert, Mimi & Filiep Libeert, Myriam & Guy Ullens, Walter Vanhaerents, and Edith & Mark Vanmoerkerke. You’ll find their names next to those of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Miuccia Prada and of course Charles Saatchi, François Pinault and Bernard Arnault. The art world’s biggest spender? Sheikh Saud bin Mohammad bin Ali al-Thani (44), a controversial member of the Qatar royal family. You’ll find an article from The Independent about him here.
