Studio Job: king and queen of the castle for a month

‘I really liked that miniature temple of theirs’, somebody said, during the opening. But that temple wasn’t theirs at all. It is álways on display at the Kasteel van Gaasbeek. That’s the funny thing about that new, temporary exhibition at the castle: the objects by renowned Belgian/Dutch design duo Studio Job really blend in. They are as kitschy – excuse me for saying so – as a lot of the furniture at the castle. Of course Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel have stripped a lot of the rooms (and they have put their own cushions in all of the beds), as to make their strange and funny objects ‘work’ even better in those chambers. Do take advantage of this opportunity to see some of the famous designs by this acclaimed duo. Time Magazine put them in their Style & Design 100 in 2007, and they were elected ‘best breakthrough designers‘ by Wallpaper in 2005. They presented their Wonderlamp (with Pieke Bergmans) at Milan Design Week recently (article and pictures here) and they will present a joint exhibition with Dutch fashion design duo Viktor & Rolf at their Antwerp gallery, later on in May. Alter Ego, by Studio Job, at Kasteel van Gaasbeek (10 km from Brussels), can be visited till June 13. Curious? Click for pictures of the exhibition here. Info here.
