Antony Gormley’s statues take over New York (and no, nobody is contemplating suicide)

Anyone out there who wants to sponsor me for a trip to New York to write about Antony Gormley‘s Event horizon? Just kidding. But, having seen the original version of this art project in London for Gormley’s Hayward Gallery exhibition in 2007, I sure am curious to see what it will look like, those 31 cast iron bodies on the roofs and sidewalks around Madison Square Park. They’ve started putting the life-size statues on their spots and this being the age of the internet, you can follow all of that on a blog. Rather funny: the police are already reassuring New Yorkers that the rooftop figures are not people contemplating suicide. Read about that here. Event horizon will be on view from March 26 through August 15. It marks Gormleys United States public art debut. Want to know more about the British artist? You’ll find my interview (on beauty) with Gormley here.
